If possible, send your document digitally as a Word file. Having the document on the computer allows the translator to view the original and the translation in parallel windows on the computer screen. This increases productivity.

Many companies have internal glossaries with technical terms, terminology, and abbreviations used in their field. Sending these lists together with the document you want to translate will help the translator work faster and more accurately and save you money.

Make sure the original text is clear and well structured. Subsequent modifications and alterations cause delays, incur unnecessary additional expense and increase the risk of error. A good original allows a good translation.

Plan ahead when you have long documents to translate. As a general rule, an experienced professional translator can translate around 2,500 words a day. Of course, performance depends on the type of text. For example, a complex legal procedure often takes more time than a simple instruction manual.

Translators are not copywriters. They do not improve the original, but translate exactly what it says. Do you have any special requirements for your document? For example, a particular tone or register? Or do you want the translator to review the document? Let us know in advance.
